China and Indonesia have helped each other to tide over the difficult times of COVID-19 with their traditional friendship further deepened, said China’s top legislator Li Zhanshu in Beijing.

In talks with Indonesian House Speaker Puan Maharani via video link, Li, Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, stressed the imported consensuses reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Joko Widodo on COVID-19 response and economic recovery during their last three phone conversations, saying that China is ready to work with Indonesia to deepen practical cooperation and push for greater development of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Li put forward a four-point proposals on implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state as well as to strengthen the cooperation between the two legislatures.

The first is to strengthen anti-epidemic cooperation. The two sides should deepen cooperation in such fields as epidemic-control materials, technology and drugs, support enterprises of the two countries to cooperate closer in vaccine research and development, procurement and production, remain united against those acts that aim to politicize or stigmatize the epidemic, while joining hands to build a global community of health for all.

Second, the two countries should maintain close friendly exchanges with topics on practicing rule of law in epidemic control and economic development as the priorities in their exchanges.

Third, the two countries are suggested to deepen economic and trade cooperation, building stronger synergy between their national development strategies while boosting cooperation for the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Fourth, the two sides should promote peaceful development, joining hands to jointly uphold multilateralism and build a closer China-ASEAN community of shared future and a community of shared future for mankind.

Puan Maharani said the friendly exchanges between Indonesia and China have been long-standing and well-established. The Indonesian House of Representatives would like to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China’s NPC and contribute to the in-depth development of bilateral relations.
