The New Chinese Ambassador, Gong Tao, said that Angola is Beijing”s strategic partner in Africa, as part of the process of economic cooperation between the two countries, local media reported.
Gong noted that relations between Angola and China were boosted last year, when President Joao Lourenzo participated in the China-Africa Cooperation Forum.
In a lunch with local reporters, the diplomat referred to the existence of a fund from the Belt and Road project that is available for any country that has signed agreements with China, and Angola is one of them.
He recalled that Chinese companies rehabilitated and rebuilt 2,800 kilometres of railroads, 20,000 kilometres of roads, more than 100,000 houses, 100 schools and 50 hospitals in Angola.
At present, the two countries are working on the interrelation between the Belt and Road initiative and Angola’s economic diversification strategy, Gong noted.
According to official statistics, more than 50 percent of direct investments in Angola come from China, which is the major importer of Angolan oil.
