The 2019 Belt and Road International Youth Summer School, co-sponsored by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and the Youth Time International Movement, opened in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on July 8.
With the theme of “Corporation along the Silk Road, Innovation in Entrepreneurship”, the summer school is focusing on the topic of bridging capital and technology.
Over 80 outstanding young entrepreneurs, college students and industry experts from 20 Belt and Road countries are taking part in special lectures, forum discussions, workshops and related cultural exchange activities.
Hang Yuanxiang, Executive Vice Chairman of the CSCLF, stressed the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in providing a platform for cooperation and exchanges. He was encouraged to see the BRI providing a practical way of promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The summer school could give full play to Sichuan’s regional advantages, building a bridge for Chinese and foreign youths to conduct high-quality exchanges and promoting the common entrepreneurial innovation, he said.
Adhering to the principles of “peace, unity, the future”, CSCLF will continue to actively exert its institutional advantages to create platforms of cooperation and exchanges for Chinese and foreign youths, said Hang.
Zhao Zhenxian, vice chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Political Consultative Conference, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, which included a briefing on the province’s economic and social development.
He said that the summer school is of great significance for Sichuan to take on a bigger role in BRI construction.
Youth Time President Julia Kinash said that the BRI was an extensive global effort seeking to connect the many nations in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas through infrastructure and trade.
It was consolidating international relationships and deepening cooperation to boost global economic growth, she said, adding that, as the initiative develops, it would surely create new opportunities for young entrepreneurs and professionals and exert a positive influence benefiting everyone for generations to come.
According to the organisers, the summer school will end on July 12. The participants will also visit the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and the Haite Group, as well as some historical and cultural sites in Sichuan. Three previous summer schools were organised successfully in Beijing and Shanghai.
