It is the fifth municipal Duty Free Shop that the group has introduced in mainland China this year, following openings in Qingdao, Xiamen, Dalian and Beijing.
China Duty Free Group (CDFG) has opened a New Downtown Shop in Shanghai, as the region’s duty free market space has become “increasingly mature” as a result of China’s ‘Belt & Road Initiative’ a global development.
The 874.4 sqm shop will feature perfume, cosmetics, sunglasses, watches and bags amongst other duty free items, introducing a number of international brands, according to the company.
The new store will also offer in-store purchases for airport pick-up for overseas visitors leaving the country, along with booking services for Chinese tourists wishing to pre-order items for airport pick-up.
The Company Statement:
“Through more sufficient shopping time and more convenient delivery methods, we will enhance the tax-free shopping experience of domestic and foreign tourists.”
According to CDFG, Shanghai has seen the number of inbound business and leisure travellers increase “steadily”, has become a centre of economy, finance, trade and science and technology in China.
“At the same time, it also shoulders the heavy responsibility of meeting the shopping needs of foreign tourists and stimulating the level of entry consumption.
“In this context, it is imperative to resume the establishment of a city-free duty-free shop in Shanghai with reference to international practice.”
