China is ready to work together with Italy’s new government is pushing forward the pragmatic and win-win cooperation between the two countries, said a Foreign Ministry Spokesman.

The Spokesman, Geng Shuang, made the statement at a regular press briefing in response to a query asking for comments on the new Italian government.

“China and Italy enjoy traditional friendship and are comprehensive strategic partners. China highly values its relations with Italy. In recent years, China and Italy have entered into fruitful cooperation in such areas as jointly building the ‘Belt & Road’, which has made solid contributions to the respective economic development and won unanimous recognition by peoples of the two countries,” said the Chinese Spokesman.

“China is ready to work together with the new Italian government to continue the pragmatic cooperation so as to achieve mutual benefits and win-win result”

Giuseppe Conte, who became the Italian Prime Minister on June 1, 2018, announced on Aug 20 that he planned to hand in his resignation to Italian President Sergio Mattarella, following the leader of the far-right League party submitted a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.

Mattarella on Thursday formally gave Conte a mandate to form a New Government, which will lead until 2023 when the next General Election is scheduled to take place.
