China is a Model Developer and a Key Cooperative Partner to Tunisia, said Tunisian Ambassador to China Dhia Khaled on the occasion of China’s 2020 Spring Festival, adding that the two Countries share broad prospects for cooperation in the coming year.
In July 2018, China and Tunisia signed a memorandum of understanding on joint construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (Belt & Road), trumpeting the horn of deeper bilateral cooperation.
With the continued promotion of the construction of the Belt & Road, relations between the two countries have registered rapid development in various fields over recent years.
The 2020 Spring Festival, which falls on Jan 25, was the fourth Spring Festival that the Tunisian ambassador had spent in China. Khaled said he was impressed by the rich culture behind the traditional festival.
“The Chinese people celebrate many festivals, especially the very important Spring Festival. The celebration of the Spring Festival is a mix of many things. During the period, people would go shopping, visit friends and families and return to their hometown. So it’s a very meaningful festival with rich contents,” said the Ambassador.
On the fruits of cooperation between China and Tunisia, Khaled said the year of 2019 was a successful year. In particular, the two countries signed an agreement in Sept 2019 to conduct a feasibility study for the expansion of the new university hospital in the Tunisian province of Sfax, with Chinese financing aid estimated at 70 million U.S. dollars.
“There was the promotion of cooperation between the two countries in all fields in 2019, with the progress made in many bilateral cooperation projects, notably the Chinese-funded university hospital in Sfax of Tunisia, which was completed at the end of 2019.
The two countries have also signed many memorandums of understanding to carry out feasibility studies for future major projects in Tunisia, which has laid a good foundation for further economic cooperation between the two sides. I hope that in 2020, both countries can build on the cooperation in 2019 and achieve more fruitful results,” he said.
The ambassador also praised China’s remarkable progress in recent decades, giving credit to the determined and hard working Chinese people.
“The People’s Republic of China has realised great development and has developed from a country which was poor at the time of its founding in 1949 to a country which is developing rapidly on all fronts.
Today, China has become the second largest economy in the world. It is a model in fields including scientific research, industrialisation and environmental protection around the world, and that reflects the determination and the firm will of the Chinese people to work for the development of their country,” said Khaled.
