The first batch of vaccines included in China’s “Spring Sprout” program to assist and secure vaccination for Chinese Citizens abroad arrived in Addis Ababa, Capital City of Ethiopia on Tuesday.
The Program was announced by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a press conference during China’s Two Sessions, who said that more than 50 Countries are including Chinese Nationals in their Vaccination Schemes. Staff Members from both the Chinese Embassy and Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopia attended the reception ceremony of those vaccines at the Airport.
Zhao Zhiyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia said that with the care and support of Chinese governments at all levels, the “Spring Sprout” program is quickly implemented in Ethiopia, to the benefits of both overseas Chinese and Ethiopian people.
“Ethiopia is the first country where the ‘Spring Sprout’ program is implemented. All Chinese working in the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, Chinese institutions and living in Ethiopia are very happy. Next, we will vaccinate all the Chinese people in Ethiopia according to the plan, so as to make our contributions to promoting the Belt & Road Construction,” said Zhao.
The vaccines of the “Spring Sprout” program arrived smoothly thanks to leadership of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia and joint efforts of Chinese companies and many Chinese compatriots in the country.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopia has set up a special working group, including units covering vaccine procurement and registration, among others.
With the assistance of the Embassy, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopia has coordinated with Ethiopian authorities in foreign affairs, health, customs, security and airlines in a timely manner, ensuring the smooth arrival of vaccines, prompt customs clearance and delivery of vaccines.
After registration and statistical work, the vaccination program will begin this week, covering all Chinese Citizens in Ethiopia.
In order to ensure the safety of every Chinese who receives the vaccine, the Chinese-funded hospital responsible for the vaccination has also arranged emergency response throughout the vaccination process.
“I am so excited and happy. Meanwhile, on behalf of all the Chinese people in Ethiopia, I want to express our gratitude and happiness to the people of our motherland, to the Party and to the government,” said Wen Yingzheng, Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Ethiopia.
