China attaches great importance to the development of its relations with Britain and is willing to work together with Britain to promote the sustainable, steady and sound development of bilateral ties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying made the remarks on Thursday.
Hua’s comment followed British new Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s remarks in an interview that the British government would be very “pro-China”, and Britain is very enthusiastic about the Belt and Road Initiative. Britain will continue to be “the most open economy in Europe” for Chinese investments.
“We are very enthusiastic about the Belt & Road Initiative,” Johnson said.
“We congratulate Prime Minister Boris Johnson on his his assumption of office. Premier Li Keqiang has sent his congratulatory message to Johnson. China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Britain.
On the basis of mutual respect and cooperation and win-win results, we are willing to work together with Britain to deepen political mutual trust, expand pragmatic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in various fields including the Belt & Road cooperation, expand the cooperative and positive aspects of bilateral relations, and promote the sustainable, steady and sound development of Sino-British relationship.
China and Britain should make more efforts and contributions to safeguarding multilateralism and free trade as well as coping with global challenges,” said Hua.
