Preparation for the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) is going smoothly, said Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the CIIE Bureau.

The second CIIE consists of country exhibitions, business exhibitions and the Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum. More than 60 countries have registered for the country exhibitions and there are 15 guest countries of honour this year including France and Italy.

The business exhibitions are setting up currently at the venue.

“Exhibitors are eager to apply for the second CIIE. All G20 members joined it, most countries along the Belt & Road joined it, and the 40 least developed countries or regions also joined it. So the expo is diverse as it attracts not only the developed countries. It covers a larger area with higher quality,” said Sun.

China has organised more than 600 delegations to negotiate trade at the expo. More representatives of medium and small enterprises, and visitors are also expected this year.

Government officials and representatives of international organisations will speak at the Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum under the theme of “Opening-up and Innovation for Win-win Cooperation.”

“This year we continued holding the Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum and it is close to the end of the preparation. We have basically confirmed all our guest speakers. This year for the forum we will learn from other world famous economic forums and adopt membership and registration systems to promote marketization of the forum,” said Sun.

The Second CIIE will kick off on November 5 in the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai.
