The first Myanmar Run event in Bagan was held on Sunday, gathering more than 300 foreign and local participants comprising company teams, running enthusiasts and the local community.
The event was organised by China Daily and RVIPS Publications with the support of the Myanmar Tourism Federation, the Myanmar Hotelier Association and local authorities.
Myanmar Run 2019 included a 10km Challenge and 5km Fun Run, which was started in front of Ananda Pagoda in Bagan and ending at the same location
China Daily Group Editorial Board Member and Editor-in-Chief Mr Zhou Li, said, “The first-ever Myanmar Run event in Bagan was a resounding success, with hundreds enjoying their run during sunrise in beautiful Bagan.
“As the sport of running becomes more popular across the country, we will continue to promote friendship and healthy lifestyles through events such as this. We look forward to hosting next year’s edition of the Myanmar Run with even more participants!”
The inaugural running event was also held to promote healthy activities, friendship and tourism in Bagan. The event raised K5 million which was donated after the event to various tourism development initiatives in Bagan, Myanmar.
In the men’s 10km Challenge International Category, Kensuke Konno from Japan finished first. In the women’s 10km Challenge International Category, Lindsay McLaughlin from the US won first place.
In the men’s 10km Challenge Local category, Naing Lin finishes in the first place while Saung Hnin Phwe finished first in the women’s 10km Challenge Local Category.
The event also promoted tourism development in Myanmar, with international runners from 15 countries coming to Bagan, Myanmar’s second UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a weekend of sporting adventure.
The Event also promoted China’s “One Belt, One Road” Trade Initiative.
