China’s Top Legislator Li Zhanshu here on Friday held talks with Hungarian Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kover via video link, and they pledged to play positive roles of the two legislative bodies to enhance the State-to-state relations.

Li, Chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said that recent years have seen bilateral political mutual trust continue to deepen, cooperation yield fruitful results and the two countries’ relations enter the best period in history.

Facing the test of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have actively supported each other in fighting the virus and resuming work and production, Li said.

Economic and trade cooperation has risen against the adverse trend, major cooperation projects have been implemented one after another, and vaccine cooperation has made positive progress.

China will continue to view and develop bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective and is willing to work with Hungary to implement the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and benefit the two countries and their peoples, he said.

Noting that legislative exchanges are an important part of the bilateral relationship, Li said the NPC is willing to deepen friendly exchanges with the Hungarian Parliament.

Li called on the two legislative bodies to maintain close high-level exchanges and promote exchanges between their special committees and friendly groups, and provide legal protection for the cooperation within the framework of the Belt & Road Initiative and bilateral practical cooperation in various fields.

Kover thanked China for its assistance in materials and vaccines in the joint fight against the pandemic.

Kover said that Hungary firmly supports and actively participates in the construction of the Belt & Road Initiative and Cooperation between Central and Eastern European Countries and China, and hopes to further promote more project cooperation.
