Agreement between China Three Gorges Corporation, the Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) has been finalised for implementing the 1,124 Megawatt Kohala Hydroelectric Power Project in AJK under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Framework, one of the Chinese Belt & Road Initiative Corridor.

The Project is aimed at annually providing more than five billion units of clean and low-cost electricity for consumers in Pakistan and AJK. This marks one of the largest investments of $2.4 billion in an Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Pakistan and AJK.

India’s stance against CPEC is Pakistan’s illegal Occupation of Kashmir (PoK).  China and Pakistan are jointly accelerating Construction under the Belt & Road Initiative.

China & Pakistan are jointly constructing a 3000 km long CPEC passing through Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan in Ladakh. Under this, China’s Xinjiang State is to be connected to Pakistan’s Gwadar Port via Rail, Road, Pipeline and Optical Fibre Cable Network. India has consistently objected to this, calling it a violation of its Sovereignty.

This is the Second Project in two months in the area, which Pakistan and China will jointly build.

Last month, Project to build a Dam in Gilgit-Baltistan at a cost of $ 442 billion was signed by the Chinese State Owned Company and the Commercial Arm of the Pakistani Army. India had objected to the Project.
