Speaking at the meeting, Zhang Jun, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, said that the issues of unbalanced and inadequate development are still acute, and that unilateralism, protectionism and bullying are still on the rise.
Zhang urged the international community to attach great importance to the right to development, put development at the core of the global macro policy framework and accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the U.N.
According to the Chinese Mission, the international community should respect every country’s choice of its social system, development path and human rights protection model, and take a people centred approach. The international community should create a favourable environment for the developing countries.
The Chinese government always takes development as its paramount task in its governance of the country and takes the rights to subsistence and to development as the basic human rights. China has developed its own human rights development path with Chinese characteristics, and has achieved remarkable results. China sincerely helps developing countries to realise the right to development and never attaches any political conditions, the Chinese mission pointed out.

Speaking on the same occasion, the attendees from other countries said that the right to development is of great importance to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
They spoke highly of China’s human rights development and achievements, pointing out that China’s achievements in economic development and poverty alleviation are “world miracles” and provide rich experience, assistance and reference significance to other developing countries to achieve the right to development.
The attendees call for the international community to promote multilateralism, promote the right to development, oppose unilateral sanctions and “long arm jurisdiction” and other misdeeds, and join hands to cope with the challenge of poverty and uneven development and achieve common development and prosperity with everyone enjoying human rights.
