The 2019 Overseas Chinese Conference in Macao and Youth Summit was held in China’s Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Saturday, to mark the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland.
Sponsored by the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macao, the conference brought together officials from the Macao SAR government and the Central Government, as well as overseas Chinese delegations.
The conference focused on seizing opportunities brought about by joint construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt & the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (Belt & Road) and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
“The Macao SAR is about to have a new starting point. We should believe that the new SAR government will work together with Macao residents to launch future development for the Macao SAR.
We hope that the attendees of this conference, at this get-together for enhancing exchange and friendship, could have personal experiences of the good social environment of Macao with the successful implementation of ‘one country, two systems,'” said Chief Executive of Macao SAR Chui Sai On at the event.
“The Macao youths in particular are enjoying great opportunities brought about by the development of our country,” said Bi Zhijian, President of the Youth Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macao, in an interview on the sidelines of the conference.
“The overseas Chinese could use the platform of Macao to enhance their cooperation and exchanges with the mainland.
In Macao, we can not only have ‘bringing-in’, but can also develop ‘going-global’, allowing mainland entrepreneurs to develop market in Portuguese-speaking countries and Southeast Asian countries,” said Liu Yiliang, Chairman of the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macao, also Vice President of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.
