China’s Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang affirmed the importance of the anticipated visit by Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Egypt on January 7-8, at the invitation of the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

The visit, which reflects keenness on developing strategic relations, is the Chinese Minister’s first visit to Egypt since 2014, the Ambassador said in statements to MENA.

Egypt will be the first leg of Chinese Foreign Minister’s Foreign tours in the New Year, Ambassador Liao said.

Shoukry and Wang will deeply exchange views regarding regional and international issues along with discussing means of upholding consensus among President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping towards giving impetus to Egyptian-Chinese cooperation within the framework of the Belt & Road Initiative, the Ambassador said.

The Chinese Official’s African tour will also take him to Djibouti, Eritrea, Burundi and Zimbabwe, the Ambassador said.

The tour, which coincides with the 20th Anniversary of the inception of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), seeks to follow up the outcome of the 2018 FOCAC Beijing Summit, Liao added.
